I recently had a 3-d mammogram and follow-up ultrasound. The mammo showed parenchymal distortion with no abonormal clusters. The U/S showed herterogeneous glandular tissue throughout 1:00 to 3:00. No focal mass or suggestive shadowing. I have a follow-up MRI next week for parenchymal distortions. What does this mean?

Doctor's Assistant: Have you experienced any bleeding? Pain? Unintentional weight loss?

No

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

I have two maternal aunts who have had breast cancer in their 70 's

Oncologist: Dr. David, Doctor (MD) replied 3 months ago

how old are you?

have you had breast surgery before?

parenchymal distortion means that the breast tissue in an area looks abnormal. sometimes breast cancer can cause parenchymal distortion.

the MRI scan uses other techniques such as contrast wash out and swelling to see if you may have findings for breast cancer in your breast.

I was about to start my period when i had the tests. Could that have affected the results?
Oncologist: Dr. David, Doctor (MD) replied 3 months ago

usually your period doesn't cause parenchymal distortion.

but it may not be a breast cancer.
