Customer Question
Hi, I just got...

Hi, I just got my tumor markers back from my oncologist. My CA27-29 is 12.57 and my CEA is 6.6 My oncologist wants to do the tumor markers again. I am naturally concerned

Doctor's Assistant: Are you keeping a personal medical record while dealing with this?

I feel fine. I have had bad luck with oncologists. My first oncologist who treated me with chemo for my breast cancer in 2001 is now in prison. My 2nd oncologist who started starting about 2006 just retired last year and didn't even let me know it. He was just seeing once a year to monitor my health. My doctor and I now can't find any records from either doctor. Last year my CEA was 2.70. I also had a colon screening and PET scan. Both came back great.

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

I have bad allergies and sinus problems. Most of my medications are for those problems.

I am a cancer doctor

I am sorry you are having a hard time with oncologist.

tumor markers are very unreliable way to try to detect recurrence of your breast cancer.

you are now 16 years out from 2001 from your breast cancer

most doctors would not use blood tumor markers for you at this point

any sort of inflammation in your body can cause these blood tumor markers to be elevated, not from cancer recurrence.

bad allergies, sinus infection, sinus inflammation can cause your tumor markers to be elevated.

let me know if you have questions.
