Customer Question
Had my first colon...

Had my first colon screening at 50 (female.) The dr. found a polyp in the ascending colon and am awaiting biopsy results (he said he removed it and doesn't think it's cancerous) but I am worried about everything I've read about proximal polyps (ssa/p). He wants to do another colonoscopy in 1 year to make sure it hasn't come back or in case he missed some. What methods of preventing right-sided colon cancer are there? A friend recently had her whole colon removed (different problem.) Can a person have their ascending colon removed or whole colon removed in order to prevent colon cancer? I don't want to wait until they find something. I talk to my dr. this coming week. I just want to be prepared and to know what questions to ask. I'm scared.

Doctor's Assistant: Are you keeping a personal medical record while dealing with this?

Yes. I have a history of breast cancer (dx 2015 - stage 1, bilateral mastectomy, no chemo or radiation, low oncotype score) and because of that, I am terrified. Am fully prepared for preventative surgical resection. Is that possible?

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

My dr. knows my history, but I do have one maternal aunt who died from colon cancer at 78 (I am 50.) I do not know what kind she had and am unable to find out. No one else in my family has ever had breast or colon cancer (I am the only one with breast cancer dx.)
