Resolved Question:

I went to my endocrinologist last month for a checkup and explained sometimes I feel shaky but otherwise okay. My blood work came back consistent with anemia or so he said, however my hgb was 13.7. Does this make sense. I'll attach the iron Labwork. He told me to take 50mg of iron a day. What could have caused this? Also more recently I've been having memory problems, fatigue, and hair loss. Oddly I also get petechiae however my platlet count is normal. I'm a nurse so it was a little alarming to see? Are these consistent with an iron deficiency. Should I seek another specialists opinion? Thanks in advanced

You are not anemic with a normal hemoglobin. You appear to be iron deficient but not yet anemic. I would consider increasing iron containing foods first. You do not need to see a specialist or an endocrinologist for this.

Aside from meat, some good iron sources are dark leafy vegetables, soybean, lentil and chick pea.
