Customer Question

A recent Ct scan of my lumbar spine included the statement: "Dense atherosclerotic calcifications of the aorta are present." Does this require immediate attention, and if so by what type of doctor?

Thanks for this question

First of all, this is not an emergency

this basically means you have calcium buildup/plaque buildup in your aorta.

This is another risk factor for heart disease

I would recommend you see a vascular surgeon or a cardiologist to help with this

The first steps would be to determine how often they need to watch your aorta to make sure you don't get an aneurysm.

The next step would be to maximize treatment for risk factors for heart disease
