Customer Question

I am a 65 year old white male. I have an 8 reading on my anti-dsDNA test, which my dermatologist's nurse said is borderline . What does that indicate? Is there definitely something wrong? Is there a way bring for me to bring the reading down?

This is Dr. David

why did you have this test? was it part of an antoimmune panel.

if the rest of the rest including ANA (antinuclear antibodies) and

antibodies to histone tests,
antibodies to phospholipids,
antibodies to Ro/SS-A and La/SS-B,
antibodies to Sm target Sm proteins in the cell nucleus,
antibodies to RNP target ribonucleoproteins

if the rest is negative, I would not worry about a boarderline anti dsDNA test.

these tests are to look if your body is producing antibodies which could be attacking your own cells. to see if you might have an autoimmune disorder.

so one test can't be looked at in isolation

and if you did have an autoimmune disorder, your antibody levels would be much higher and not boarderline

boarderline basically means negative.

there is no real way to affect the results of these antibody tests.

you should eat healthy and exercise and loose weight if you are overweight

you don't have to worry about one boarderline antibody test

let me know if you have questions.
