my physician has diagnosed me with anemia as a result of blood work. Stool specimens were negative for blood. However he will not tell me the reason for the anemia. Can you help, please

This is Dr. David

you need ferritin and serum iron levels and TIBC levels to see if your iron levels are low which can cause anemia with small red blood cells.

you should get your B12 and folate levels checked. low levels of these can cause anemia with large red blood cells.

if these are normal, your spleen size should be checked. sometimes large spleens can cause anemia.

if this is normal, then you might need to see a hematologist to get a bone marrow biopsy to see if there is something wrong with your bone marrow where the red cells are being produced.
