sounds like you have been batting this lung cancer for some time now.
Dr. David :
you can try the Fucoidan, but most likely it won't do too much to shrink your lung cancers.
Dr. David :
if you are a non smoker and have never smoked, and your lung cancer is an adenocarcinoma, there is still a response rate in 5-10% of patients to EGFR targeted agents like tarceva and Iressa, even if your genetic testing for EGFR mutation was negative. . so that could be an option for you if your current chemotherapy stops working for you.

In Jan. 2008, after the operaion in my lung, they tested my lung cancer for EGFR, it was negative. In Jan. 2013 they tested the same stored lesion for ALK mutation, it was also negative.

I am not a smoker, but between 1986 - 2001, during business I have to work together with heavy smoker, each day 10 -12 hours, a heavy passive smoker! (Now my age is 73)

After operation end of 2007, I was treated by chemotherapy (Gemzar and Carboplatin) between Jan. - June 2008. After 6 cycles treatment there were still some small opacities left in left lung. (around size 0.3cm)

Then from Dec.2011 - April 2012, because aound 20 opacities in my both left and right lung were grown bigger (the biggest was around 1.5 cm with SUV 13.1) I was treated again by chemotherapy 6 cycles (Alimta + Carboplatin). After the first 4 cycles, the size was reduced to 1.3 with SUV 5.3. However, 3 months after the 6th cycle, the size increased to 1.cm with SUV 9.6)

On 4/9/2013 a x-ray film showed the biggest cancer in left lung has already grown to 4.6cm, Doctors in Hongkong suggested me to consider chemotherapy (Alimta + Carboplatin) again, but I hesitate. As for Tarceva I also hesitate for its side effect because I have a lot of sensitive/allerge problem, please advise me some relevent information.

One thing somehow lucky for me that the biggest cancer was located in the middle of LUL. Therefor so far I have not suffered from some uncomfortable sympotom. So I wonder how long it can last if I take neither chemotherapy nor Tarceva, please advise.

tarceva and iressa tend to have less side effects than carboplatin. the most common side effect of tarceva is acne rash on the face.
since you were not an active smoker and you are an asian female, there is still a chance that your cancer could still possibly respond to an EGFR targeting agent. it is important to check if your cancer is an adenocarcinoma (and not a squamous cell carcinoma).
talk to your doctor about the option of adding on tarceva (even though your EGFR mutation testing was negative). there is still a 10-15% chance that your metastatic lung cancer could still possibly respond and shrink with tarceva.

Current treatment: Chemotherapy to begin 9/3, every TWO weeks with the following drug combination: Flourouracil + Leucovorin Calcium + Oxaliplatin (six weeks only for radiopathy concerns) History to Current Diagnosis 7/19 Biopsy Taken By Gastro 7/29: Result from Dr. Marfatia that it is adenocarcinoma at the EG Junction. 7/31: Visit with Dr. Smita Sihag at Sloan Memorial 8/1: Sloan analysis of Slides from Dr. Marfatia biopsy: EG junction, 37cm; biopsy (CT19-01781, E, 7/19/19, 2 H&E): - Infiltrating adenocarcinoma, moderately to poorly differentiated with focal signet ring cell features. 7/31 Pet Scan, results reported: IMPRESSION: 1.
