First diagnosed rectal cancer in May 2007, underwent a lower anterior resection, followed with 6 months of 5-FU, Oxalipalitin chemo and radiation. Mets to the liver in 2008 (one tumor), underwent liver resection in 2008. Mets to both lungs in 2009 September, about 8 tumors. Nothing has been done, the tumors are growing slowly. The largest one is now 2 inches and it is now 3+ years. I started to feel some poking or points of strains/soreness in a number of places around the front and back of my left chest since December last year. I don't have shortness of breath, I am able to bike and excercise as normal. The oncologist recommends starting Avastin, Irinotecan and fluorouracil chemo 6 + 6 rounds with a permanent port. My symptoms appears to have calm down to certain degree. I don't feel them most of the time during the day. I used to have quite a bite of dry coughing back in early December, but it has gone away gradually since about a week ago. I am really struggling with whether to start chemo. As it seems to me I will be down the path of no return. Under the goal of living with cancer and maintaining my quality of life as much as possible, should I delay chemo until I feel unbearable? Am I risking myself for more troubles later on? or should I start it now, but just taking 6 rounds and stop it, allowing my body and immune system to rebounce. Are there other treatments or approach I can take? Thanks!!
