I am sorry for your husband's diagnosis and situation.
Dr. David :
it sounds like he has quite an aggressive prostate cancer.
Dr. David :
it is harder to get better treatments than at MD Anderson.
Dr. David :
no doctor can predict how long he will have to live.
Dr. David :
I don't even do that for my own cancer patients that I treat.
Dr. David :
with this sort of progression, he could live 6 months, he could live longer than 1 year, he could live shorter than 6 months. it is impossible to say.

has he received palliative radiation therapy for his bone pain?

Customer: He has not had radiation yet. Because of the amount of tumor in the bone. They are talking about in now though.
Dr. David :
well, they should have considered palliative radiation therapy sooner.
Dr. David :
the radiation is good at killing the prostate cancer in the bone, but it can take months for the bone to repair the bone destruction if it is extensive.
Customer: No radiation yet at all correct because of the amt of tumor but his oncologist spoke of it recently due to the amt of pain he qas having. His pain seems to have subsided some since this last chemo treatment 2 wks ago.
Dr. David :
so there might be some small shrinkage of the cancer in the bone.
Customer: Yes but hes much weaker in bed alot nauseated etc
Dr. David :
radiation would only take 2 weeks of treatment or 10 treatments.
Dr. David :
and then he could go back on more chemotherapy .
Customer: Actually its the opposite the last bone scan showed progression in the pelvis and up to the bladder area but that was before chemo.
Dr. David :
well, if he was having pain then, that would have been a good time for a course of palliative radiation therapy.
Dr. David :
MD Anderson has an excellent radiation therapy department.
Customer: We believe his local oncologist dropped the ball. Dr. Tu at md anderson was extremely upset when we were there 3 wks ago.
Customer: That is when they found the liver mets and lung
Dr. David :
I see.

so he was getting treatments locally and at MD Anderson as well?
