Customer Question
98 mini van replaced...

98 mini van replaced engine with one from a 2000. Last thing I did was put new pads on. But it now has a soft brake pedal and very little stopping power when running. Replaced booster and master cylinder and wheel cylinders. No leaks but pedal still gets soft as soon as engine is on. Bench bleed master cylinder and all four abs bleeders after preforming manual re-home procedure and normal bleeding procedure but still have a pedal that goes all the way to the floor.

Mechanic's Assistant: How old are the hoses? And what driving conditions do you most often encounter?

Hoses are probably original but not swollen. It is not safe to drive with traffic, will not be driven until fixed.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your MINI yourself? What have you tried so far?

Mechanic shop bleed after I tried then to dealership to bleed abs. Last thing I tried was bleeding the rear with engine running.

Welcome, I'm Chris (aka-Moose).

  • THE TIME I AM ONLINE, 7 days a week normally online around midday and then late evening until early morning.
  • PHONE CALLS are automatically offered by the website normally after my first reply. I complete calls where I feel it is a benefit.
  • UPLOADED LINKS I SEND, if I upload dropbox links, they will open on a home PC, often they fail on a work PC, on a phone use the box on the top right of your phone screen for direct download.

If you wrap the hoses with a rag then clamp them closed with vice grips only allowing the front brakes to work. Do you get a firm pedal then?
