Hello, my name is***** to see what voltage is on pink wire going to ignition module while trying to start. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
about 10.5
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

It should be closer to 11. What is battery voltage while trying to start?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
extended cranking battery voltage is 10.8
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

Try to jump start vehicle, let me know if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no change
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.
Monitor ground on black wire going to ignition module while trying to start. Meter should still maintain same voltage reading when using black wire as ground, if not run new ground. If good then next step is compression test. Timing chain problems on these vehicles can cause weak spark also. Let me know how it goes or if you have more questions, thanks.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
compression is about 180 across all 4 cylinders
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

Did you check ground? Also clean ground strap mounting points on coil housing. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ground was constant.
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

Disconnect the ignition module and check for 500-900 ohms resistance between the Purple and Yellow wires. Check for 500 millivolts (mV) AC output or more at a fast cranking speed. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
which wire for ac output test?
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

They both put out voltage so you need to put one lead on purple wire and other lead on yellow wire to monitor ac voltage while cranking.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
colors on connector are Pink, White, Brown/white stripe, orange and black
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

The purple and yellow wires connect to pins 27 and 28 of PCM, sorry about confusion. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where is the pcm?
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

Below the left side of the I/P near the steering column, here is a pic.

With the harness connected I have no way of testing wires. any other way to test it?
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

You can do test with it unplugged.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What is the numbering on the pins? So I can get the correct 2
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/riem7da2x37j0pq/2c.pdf?dl=0 There is diagram, let me know. Thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
doesn't say which is 27 and 28
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

It shows pin 17, so you need to count over 10 pins from 17. Let me know if you get it, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
About 650 ohms and 0.00 and flicker to 0.01 ma cranking and not steady
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

Replace crank sensor, the cranking ac voltage is way too low. Let me know how it goes, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It says theft lock on the radio. Can the battery be disconnected and the radio still work after?
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

Yes, it will be fine. Let me know how it goes, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
New cps in and still no start
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

I'm going to open question up to see if someone else has some idea. I'd consider double checking grounds or running new ground to ignition module. Someone will reply when they can help, thanks.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
nevermind got it running.
Expert:  GM Tech Cam replied 1 year ago.

Do you still require assistance?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. Security system was tripped.
Expert:  GM Tech Cam replied 1 year ago.

Do you want to consider bypassing it so it does not do that again?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Person told me a key was just made and then it didn't start.
Expert:  GM Tech Cam replied 1 year ago.

The key does not have a chip in it, that’s the issue. The security system uses a sensor in the ignition cylinder to sense the rotation of the key along with the change in power feeds in the ignition switch so the key is only a key.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
They brought original key and it started right up. After 2 days of trying things the key did it.
Expert:  GM Tech Cam replied 1 year ago.

I am not sure how that can be. As I said it’s the pass lock system. Often its just a bad connection to the pass lock sensor in the ignition cylinder.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Either way will wait and see if it does it again. Thanks for trying.
Expert:  GM Tech Cam replied 1 year ago.

If you want to bypass that sensor, just reply and let me know what you want to and I can assist you with that.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok. I know this thread will be in my question file.
Expert:  GM Tech Cam replied 1 year ago.

Absolutely. Have a great day. No need to reply in the mean time.
