1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme: The instrument lights..intermittently

Customer Question

I have a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a digital dash. The instrument lights would intermittently go off and come on, or sometime stay off completetly for a lengthy period of time. Thinking it may be a battery problem, I replaced it first. I was told that two of the battery cells were completely dry. But now with a new battery, the instrument lights are still not functioning properly. Where do I go from here.

Hello & Welcome to JA,

Your problem is very likely an interior lamp dimmer switch or the cluster itself. One must check the voltage from the light switch when turning to see if there is an increase in voltage. Also if needed , one must check there is a voltage signal at the instrument panel light circuit.
