I have a Canon DR-C125...
I have a Canon DR-C125 scanner. I get an error message: The device could not be locked. Check that another application isn't using the device.(-4630). I have tried changing the USB connection. Once I installed Paperport in the past, and this seemed to initiate the problem. I have since uninstalled all Nuance software. Can you help?

Click Start, type in MSCONFIG and press enter.
Click on the Startup Tab and click Disable All.
Click on the Services Tab and click "Hide All Microsoft Services"
Then click Disable All
Click ok, restart and let me know if you can then scan

I had it connected to another computer until last week, and it worked fine. I changed locations of my PC's and this is the result.

I think trying to use Paperport was what started the problems

ok, than do the following please
Download CC Cleaner (free) from here
CC Cleaner
(Click Download Latest Version on the top right)
Run it and let it scan and repair your registry.
Once done, restart the computer
Than
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator.
A black window will open.
Type in it
sfc /scannow
press enter and when it has completed, type in
chkdsk /r
Press enter.
It will give a message "the type of the file system is NTFS cannot lock current drive.
chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts y/n" Say Y, press enter and restart the computer.
Then try to scan

I didn't avoid checkdisk, so i'm 12% complete and it is going slow. Is there a way out of this?

No, but if its going slow, it means there are lots of problems on the hard disk, so you really do need to let it complete. It normally takes 20 minutes but when it takes this long it means its fixing a host of issues.

Disconnect the scanner to the computer
Then click start, Devices and Printers.
Right click on the scanner and select remove
Once done, restart the computer.
Then connect the scanner to the computer, install it again like you initially did and tell me please if you can now scan.
