Hi, I've been noticing...

Hi, I've been noticing that every once in a while, right before or after my period, my discharge will be a lot liquidy and have a stronger smell. I was wondering if that was normal. And I also have an IUD

Doctor's Assistant: The OB/GYN Doctor can help. Just a couple quick questions before I transfer you. When did the discharge start? Has it been constant or does it come and go?

I feel like it has been happening every month or so, in the past 2 months. It comes and goes. I had cramps a few days ago and I started bleeding a little bit, but ever since then my discharge has been very liquidy and only a little blood has come out since then.

Doctor's Assistant: What color is the discharge? How would you describe its texture?

Brownish-yellow and is sticky

Doctor's Assistant: When did your last period start and end? Does it come regularly?

I had my last period a month ago, the last week of April. And ever since I got my IUD it used to be very irregular, but it seems like they have started to become more regular and routine in the last few months.

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the Doctor should know?

Respected customer this type of discharge can be normal before periods,the reasons are:

Hormonal changes during this time of menstrual cycle can cause a slight ph imbalance, which usually settles after you start your periods.

The little blood that accumulates in the vagina before your actual flow starts can cause a ph imbalance, which is also temporary.

As long as your symptoms are not causing discomfort, and are just temporary you don't need to worry, try probiotic supplements for vaginal health, use only unscented products donwn there,don't douche, no wet wipes and wear loose breathable cotton underwear.

If you develop other symptoms like itching, pain, burning etc with the smell,this can be bacterial vaginosis, in that case you should see your physician for testing and treatment.
