Why is my menstrual cycle weird?

The light period itself is not a problem or red flag for anything bad.

As long as you're having a period about once a month, that all sounds pretty normal.

Discharge could be due to anything though - infection, an imbalance of the normal bacterial population down there, hormonal changes throughout your menstrual cycle (and our hormonal milieu changes all through our life, so things can change as time goes on).

I would recommend STD testing if that is a concern.

I would also recommend that you take a probiotic everyday - an over the counter product called RepHresh makes several products like oral tablets and/or vaginal inserts that can help boost the healthy bacteria down there. You can also eat a cup of Activia yogurt per day.

Other things that can keep the vagina healthy:

- No tub baths, just showers. No fancy or scented soaps or washes, just an unscented Dove bar and let soapy water run over the area. No feminine hygiene washes, douches, or Vagisil.

- Leave your underwear off at night to let oxygen circulate.

- Use unscented for sensitive skin laundry detergent to wash your underwear.

- No thong underwear, ever.

-Limit the wearing of tight pants/leggings. If you must wear them, change when you get home.

- Change out of sweaty clothes immediately after a work out.
