Customer Question
My OB GYN keeps...

My OB GYN keeps telling me I have endometriosis. I do not believe I do. I have terrible irregular periods that last for months I have severe abdominal pain on my left side where the ovary should be but it is not there it’s under my uterus. I also have umbilical pain. I had a bilateral salpingectomy in November.

Doctor's Assistant: Are you using any contraceptives? How long have you dealt with endometriosis?

They put me on a contraceptive but the bleeding won’t stop. I had the liletta IUD implanted as well. I am not sure how long they “think” I’ve had endometriosis

Doctor's Assistant: When was your last pap test, and what were the results? Any swelling, discoloration, or unusual smells?

Just had Pap test a couple weeks ago. I have tons of swelling blood and feels stale

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

I have family history of ovarian cancers and cervical cancers

The doctors won’t look any further then using contraceptives. They are not working. They have done multiple blood tests and they come back winthin normal range and they just put me on birth control. I have two kids. I had my Fallopian tubes removed. I have a past history of ovarian cysts but just learned today that my left ovary is very mobile and was under my uterus the tech could move the ovary and that hurt like hell she said my uterus was retroinverted if that’s the term she used. I am very confused and concerned as to why I am still bleeding and I’m pain!

When you had your bilateral salpingectomy, was a laparoscope used?

Has your doctor seen endometriosis, or is this a guess?

Has your doctor discussed a hysterectomy? Thank you.

Had the salpingectomy in November of 2018. The endometriosis is a guess. They haven’t discussed anything further because I’m only 22. I’ve been dealing with this irregular bleeding since I got my first period 10 years ago. It’s only getting worse

They did the surgery laparoscopic

They just say you’ll be fine in a year, take the progesterone to stop the bleeding
OB GYN Doctor: Dr. Norm S., Board Certified OB/GYN replied 1 month ago

Sorry for the delay. I was away.

The best way we have to diagnose endometriosis is with a laparoscope, so there shouldn't be any guessing.

On the other hand, with all of your pain and bleeding, plus the fact that you don't want further children, a hysterectomy is something to be considered. It won't always stop your pain, depending on what is causing it, but it will definitely stop your bleeding.

If the pain is coming from your ovaries or from endometriosis, a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) alone may not stop the pain. Removing the ovaries as well would, but you're very young, so I wouldn't consider that except as a last option.

There are hormonal treatments for endometriosis which stop pain so well, that if pain doesn't go away, we assume it's not from endometriosis.

I would recommend that you get a second opinion from a good OB/GYN doctor. You shouldn't have to live with so much pain and bleeding. Best wishes.
