I'm a 51 yr. old female and have been having Menopausal

Customer Question

Hello,I'm a 51 yr. old female and have been having Menopausal symptoms for it seems 9 yrs. now and although it's been bearable for about 8 yrs. now, this last year has been horrible. I've seemed to have lost who I am as a person because of this constant unbearable apparent lost of Estrogen in my system. I'm not comfortable in my own body anymore. Because of a genetic issue with breast cancer in my family, my doctor feels that hormonal therapy is NOT an option.
I know my Estrogen levels are out of balance which is most likely why I constantly feel this way and want to know what other options I have to bring these levels to normal. I do not wish to take any anti-depressants as they only mask the situation...I want relief but not at the expense of being a zombie. My physical issues are causing mental issues and most of my physical pain and discomfort is in my lower back on the vertebrae and while my husband is giving me massages by hand, and massages by machine,, that only lasts a short while..I"m not sleeping properly and my appetite is affected as well. Pleae advise! Thank you so much ahead of time...

May I add that the normal symptom of "hot flashes" has been minimal over the years and definitely NOT a primary issue at all..

How tall are you? How much do you weigh? Any weight change? What are your menopausal symptoms? Does anything make it better or worse? Any other medical problems? Any surgeries? Any medications? Any family medical history?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'm 5' tall, 95 lbs, mild weight change that fluctuates only a few pounds, severe lower back pain at times, crawling skin, poor sleep, irritability...alcohol helps to mask the symptoms but eventually makes it worse of course, no other medical problems other than extremely heavy flow each month, No surgeries other than tonsils removed, tubes tied YEARS ago,, no medications other than vitamins, no one else in family has experienced these symptoms...all has the norm hot flashes,etc...
Please advise..

Sleep medications such as trazodone or doxepin at bed time would work for other symptoms. Pain medication such as Gabapentin (Neurontin) would work for other symptoms when you take it at bed time.

Medical marijuana could help your symptoms if it is used for severe low back pain.

Are trazodone, doxepin or Gabepentin OTC or prescribed medications? Are they natural?
We thought about medical Marijuana as well. How would one go about getting a prescription for that? What are the steps? Thanks so much for your help..
Expert:  khagihara replied 1 year ago.

They are prescribed medication. They are not natural.

You should ask your primary care doctor to refer a pain specialist who prescribes medical Marijuana.
