I am 2 weeks post hysterectomy. It was an open procedure

Customer Question

I am 2 weeks post hysterectomy. It was an open procedure with a vertical incision. I kept my ovaries. All biopsies were benign. I had a post op appointment today and i have a question my doctor didn't really answer. When they weighed me today I weighed 11 pounds less then I did before the surgery. However all my pants seem almost 2 sizes too small. Is abdominal swelling normal after hysterectomy? When will it subside? Is there anything I can do about it?

Abdominal swelling is common after abdominal surgery. It will gradually go down over time. The best you can do is to take good care of yourself. Get as much exercise as reasonable (walking is good), eat well, and give it time. The swelling will gradually resolve over time. It might take more than a couple weeks, so don't get discouraged. Best wishes.
