Recently, I discovered a painful lump just inside my labia

Customer Question

Recently, I discovered a painful lump just inside my labia majora (the top, sort of above my clitoris). Outwardly, it only looks like a small raw/ulcerated spot, but I can feel a lump underneath slightly smaller than pea-size. Even the slightest touch is very painful. It's been there at least a week, and it isn't getting any better. I'm due for my annual, and will be seeing my doctor soon, but in the meantime, I was hoping you could tell me what could possibly cause something like this. I've been married for over 10 years, so I can rule out STDs. Thanks!

Hello, I'm Dr Manos, board certified obgyn. What you describe is confusing. The first thing would be possible herpes lesion but lasting a week seems excessive but painful would be consistent. Feeling pea-sized lump is not consistent. I might suggest getting bacitracin ointment over-the-counter to apply to help healing. Seeing your doctor soon will determine what's the problem.
