For some reason, a pilonidal abscess is more likely to occur around period time. It's probably related to hormonal changes, although I don't think we understand it well.

If you have recurring abscesses, it's usually advisable to remove the pilonidal cyst area. I would see a general surgeon about this. Although previous doctors have only lanced it, that hasn't proven effective, so it needs to be removed. Best wishes.
