I am concerned the high hCG level may be due to a partial molar pregnancy [/topics-pregnancy/] or chromosomal abnormalities [/topics-chromosomal-abnormalities/] in the baby.

Hello, and I am pleased to help, use of my answers are for educational purposes only.
Well this is possible to be a molar pregnancy - and what I would Recommend is another Ultrasound in TWO weeks - so to have this done at 7 weeks, because I would if you see a fetal heart beat, then it would be UNLIKELY to be a molar, even a partial molar would be unlikely - so try NOT to be too concerned about the HCG levels - I have seen this levels many times and there have been normal pregnancies.

Thanks. I also wanted to know the chance of a higher than normal hCG level this early on being linked to any chromosomal abnormality in the baby, such as Down's Syndrome. Or is this only high hCG later on?

Actually what chromosomal problems depend on your age more so that the levels of HCG as the HCG levels are placental in nature - at your age - chromosomal abnormalities occur about 1 in 100 to 1 in 200 - so unlikely these HCG levels will be linked to any problems if you have a heart beat at 7 weeks.
