No, if it was a hormonal imbalance then it would have to do with your thyroid hormones which are unrelated to your ovaries or hysterectomy.

Hi I didnt ask that question. that answer is not what I asked. I wanted to know if my weight gain was due or could be due to my hormones being out of balance.

Dear skater 1995; Perhaps I can be of service. The word, hysterectomy, means removal of the uterus and has no hormonal implications. Occasionally, in the process of that surgery, the blood supply to the ovaries can be compromised, causing early menopause. The symptoms of that are classic, sweats, flushes, sleep disturbances, etc. Weight gain is not part of typical menopausal change but can be due to thyroid abnormalities which are common in women, especially in the fifth decade. It is easy to assess thyroid function with blood tests and FSH and estradiol can be done to assess the ovaries. Weight gain is generally due to changes in calories in versus calories out. All of this can be discussed with your GP or gynecologist. Good luck

I am already on thyroid meds 100mg. I am continuing to gain weight and am fairly busy as I own a roller rink. So why am I gaining. I am also insulin resistant and dont know how to fix it

OB GYN Doctor: Alan Gibstein, M.D., OB/GYN (Doctor) replied 8 years ago
Let`s get a little more basic. You didn`t state your age. The most widely prescribed thyroid medication today is Synthroid, the dose varying from 50 micrograms to 150 mcg,for the vast majority. There are other forms of thyroid supplementation as yours may be, since you describe it in milligrams. At the time of your hysterectomy, I presume the ovaries were not removed, allowing you to reach your normal menopause. You would have the same symptoms as others, ie, sweats, flushes, mood changes, sleep changes, etc. Generally weight gain is not typical but can be in the pre- menopause, when hormones are in imbalance. Blood tests can determine this. True insulin resistance can also be treated with Metformin which your internist can discuss with you. Be well
