Customer Question
I am currently a Sunday...
I am currently a Sunday starter on Trisprintec and have been for about a year. I am switching to become a Friday starter on Aviane. So I will be starting the new prescription when I have 2 inactive pills left. Will I need to use back up for a cycle with the pill change or I am I still covered because there has not been an interruption? I know Aviane is a lower dose. Thank you.

Thank you for your question, it is an honor to be of service to you. You will not need to use a back up form of contraception if you start your new pills at any time during the week of your inactive pills. You only need protection if you go longer than 7 days without active pills. I hope you find this information helpful!

Thank your for the quick response. I just wanted to make sure that I am not at a risk for ovulation switching to the lower dose? I am really excellent with taking the pill at the exact time every day and have never missed one.
OB GYN Doctor: Mary Claire Haver, M. D., Doctor replied 8 years ago
You are at slightly lower risk of escape ovulation with a lower dose overall- but not simply because you are switching pills. You are doing a great job taking it exactly as directly and that will improve your chances of not ovulating.
