I was diagnosed 7 years...

I was diagnosed 7 years ago with stage IV endo, mostly in my ovaries but also bladder and pelvis. Laparoscopy removed it and on Lupron. 6 cycles of IVF and twins almost 5 yrs ago. In the last year, I have severe bloating and distention immediately after eating to the point I look and feel 5 months pregnant. So uncomfortable and even hard to breathe sometimes. Went to GI doc and everything fine in abdominal and ovarian u/s. No pelvic u/s. Worse during menstral cycle. I am not overweight and in very good physical condition but hate eating now because so uncomfortable. Considering another lap. Any ideas if it could be endo again? Need justification for lap!

Bloating and distension are not classic signs of endometriosis. Unless you have adhesions all the way through your intestines and stomach these symptoms would not make sense to me in the context of endometriosis. . .and even if you did have adhesions that severe (which would be very severe), it would be rare for them to cause such symptoms.

Would like to add that I've NEVER had any GI issues in my life other than this. Also experience diarrhea and constipation at times. I also had a colonoscopy 3.5 yrs ago that was totally normal. I've done some research on endo of the bowel and lots of symptoms seem to mimic what I'm feeling...what is the incidence of women with endo who subsequently have it on the bowel and thus cause bowel issues? This has been gradual and one thing to note is that I went on continuous bcps last fall to see if it helped and it did for about 2 months and then back to bloating, etc. and not I have been off pill for over a month and it's worse than ever.

Hmmm. . .endometriosis on the bowel is not common. I'm not quite sure I understand how implants on the outside of the bowel would cause gas to accumulate on the inside of the bowel and thus the feeling of distension. That being said, you know yourself best and have experienced terrible endometriosis before. . .so if you feel like symptoms are consistent and you found relief with laparoscopy the first go round, I would recommend trying it again. It's important to know though that our rate of actually helping people symptomatically with laparoscopy is only about 50%. . .so no guarantees you will find relief. If the pill worked for you as far as decreasing symptoms, I would think the best option would be to do this again (unless you are trying to get pregnant of course) as it is the least invasive therapy.
