By six weeks they really should see more than just a sac, they should have seen an embryo (or two embryos) with a heartbeat. There may be a small chance that they just coudln't see it, but it doesn't sound encouraging. I am so sorry that I can't be more optimistic.
I don't think that you should lose hope yet, but this is not good news. Did your doctor tell you to return for another ultrasound, did they do HCG levels?
