Resolved Question:

I was into the emergency room last wednesday night with lower right quadrant pain. They ran a ct scan and said that my Large intestine is thickening. The doctor didnt seem too concerned about it and told me to see a GI doctor. He didn't explain much about it so i have no idea what it is. What are the symptoms of this and why did it thicken. I am 26 years old as well.

The CT finding of thickened large intestine may denote following disease process;

1) Crohn's disease

2) Pseudo membranous colitis

3) Infectious colitis

4) Intramural (in between the walls) hemorrhage

5) Lupus vasculitis

6) Ischemic colitis.

Depending on the involvement of the bowel segment or generalized involvement, your gastroenterologist may contemplate a biopsy or further investigations.
