Replaced timing chains, set timing according to spec,

Customer Question
Replaced timing chains, set...

Replaced timing chains, set timing according to spec, replaced crank sensor with known good sensor. When cranking, get one injector pulse. Then nothing. Immobilized light is blinking, shuts off when cranking.

Mechanic's Assistant: Does the vehicle stall at low speeds? Does it sputter?

It doesn’t run. Won’t crank. One pulse. No start

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Nissan?

2005 altima

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Altima yourself? What have you tried so far?

I️ am a shop.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Drove the car until blew the heads. Hasn’t started since we replaced heads, renewed TC, etc...get one pulse and no more. I️ think timing is out, according to Tech’s previous answers. Would like to know what scanner SHOULD show when cranking

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question.

What size engine is this? Also when you had the timing chain work done, was the fuel system disabled and engine turned over before trying to start the car?

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
2.5, and no
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 5 months ago

If you did not disable the fuel system, it's very common for the engine to jump time when you try to start it cause the timing chain tensioners have not been primed with oil yet.

I would pull the valve cover and put the engine at TDC and double check your timing and let me know what you find..

Already ahead of you, taking front cover off to check timing. How to avoid when I️ crank it back up.
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 5 months ago

Disable fuel system.. That is what I do. This way the engine turns over and builds oil pressure first.

But it won't start..

Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 5 months ago

Oh..Just thought of this also. Check to see if the car has a after market alarm. Allot of times we don't know a vehicle has a after market alarm and we find out after we disconnect the battery to do work on the car..

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
No alarm.
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
i was wrong. There was pressure to the tensioners before he cranked. Sorry-communication error here. He did turn motor over before cranking.
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 5 months ago

Did he turning by hand or disable the fuel system or something so it would not start?

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Turned by hand
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 5 months ago

Turning the engine by hand won't build up enough oil pressure to the tensioner.

How did you make out checking the timing?
