2006 Nissan Murano LPG/petrol 3.5 litre: disconnected

Customer Question
2006 Nissan Murano LPG/petrol...

2006 Nissan Murano LPG/petrol 3.5 litre: disconnected battery for one hour to reset sat nav - car wont start..Power through to starter but it just whirs. Positive battery terminal looks a little corroded. Is there some automatic cut out safety device??

Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?

Just today I think the starter is not engaging.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Murano yourself? What have you tried so far?

Disconnected both battery terminals. reconnected. Same whirring noise from engine

Is there an automatic cutout to the starter when the battery is disconnected for too long? I disconnected three times today for about 15- 20 minutes no problem. The next time about an hour and then there was the whirring noise. .

Positive terminal is slightly corroded. Perhaps not enough power getting through to turn starter?

Okay, have established the positive battery connection is the problem. Have ordered a new one as old connector wont tighten properly around positive terminal. Have wound some aluminium foil around positive terminal to increase its diameter - joint is tighter now. Presume there is no problem with that as a temporary fix, right? Now then- back to my original reason for disconnecting the battery - is there any other way to reboot GPS Sat Nav without disconnecting the battery. Thanks for your help!

re boot how? as in doing a full reset in the system? is it doing something its not supposed to do now?

Sat Nav sometimes is fine. At other times (mostly) you can then hear the map trying to be read - i.e. very slowly as the CD tries to operate and grind itself into action but then when you input data (ie from the alphabet menu or the address book storage) everything grinds to a halt. I would be happy to do a complete reboot of the Sat Nav - but how? .
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
full rest would be great!!
Nissan Mechanic: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 10 months ago

so you would want to do a self diagnosis of the unit to make sure its functioning properly, if this checks out then you can do a reset on the system either with a scanner or by removing the battery cables negative then positive, touching the cables together and waiting 30 mins then install positive then negative

Well then - re "self diagnosis of Sat Nav", my audio panel looks a b it different from your attached files (my number buttons i.e. 1,2,3,4, etc are between the "volume control" knob and the "menu" knob on the audio panel). Nevertheless with: engine on, audio off, Sat Nav disc in CD - I held down button number 4 and rotated volume knob both ways lots of times. No beep and no screen changes came up (console screen just showed "map" from sat nav). Tried other ways: held down "menu" knob and rotated volume; and also same with holding down "settings" knob on sat nav plus volume rotate . No beeps no screen change. Presumably sat nav disc must be in the CD. Anyway have tried with and without disc in CD. Nothing again Any ideas??

No. How do I check it?
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
Let me know how I check it, please - will do it tomorrow .it's late here. But please give me the instructions as to what to do tonight?
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 10 months ago

Can you take a picture of your Center Console for me, I need a side shot of it from the Passenger side. I will point out where the Rom is..

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
I know where the CD disc holder is and how the Navigation disc (i.e. what I think you're calling the "Navigation Rom") goes in and out. How do I check if the Navigation disc is functioning properly or, alternatively how do I check if the "Nav Rom holder" itself is working properly? Which first, please?
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 10 months ago

I would see if you hear that whirling noise from the rom cause that would be a indication that the issue is with the rom motor that spins the disc for the navigation

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
how do I check i.e.. self diagnose the cd.rom motor? Please see the prior questions and answers in this thread of mine to see the problems I have been having with getting "self diagnosis" to even start. I need some specific help please to get into self diagnosis. .
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 10 months ago

If it's a mechanical function of the rom causing this, there is really no Self Diagnoses. If you pull the access cover off the console and you hear the Navigation Rom making noise.. That is a mechanical issue with in the Rom and would require replacement.
