2001 pathfinder won't start

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded?

New battery fitted. Car was parked for 1 month; battery replaced to rule out battery issue

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Pathfinder yourself? What have you tried so far?

Seen by mechanic and electrician; fuel pump and filter ok, distributor o, keys ok. Somebody suggested computer needs replacement but was not convincing

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Car has been perfect till when I came back after vacation and won't start

Oil engine check etc all lights come on. Security light blinks when engine off

Sorry for the experts response time. Please keep in mind it does take time to look up information or to type.

For your issue, Can you please tell me if you turn the key to the ON position if the Security light is ON Solid and if the Service Engine Soon light is on?

security light solid and service engine on

Thank you. That is a indication that you have a key programming issue. When the security light is solid it means that the computer can't read the chip in the key or a un-programmed key is trying to start the vehicle so it activates the Immobilizer

So you will need to have all keys programmed to the vehicle. When you have a key that is programmed, when you turn the key to the ON position, the security light will be off.

The dealer can do this, or a Mobile locksmith can program keys for you.

Keys and immobiliser checked and are ok; was told computer may be faulty

Both keys won't start car

If they are factory keys, they may not be programming them properly. But if they can't be programmed, either the Nats Antenna is bad, or the Ecm. It's one of the two if keys won't program.

If it's the Ecm, it would need to be replaced. The part is no longer available from the dealer, so you would need to buy a used one, Reman, or send yours out for repair.

A scanner would be needed along with a Immobilizer diagnostics would need to be done to verify if the Ecm is the issue

Nissan Dealer service has been awful here in Saudi Arabia. So frustrating car has been superb till this happened and now nobody seems to know how to fix it; dealership changed here and new dealer said he dies not have software fir old models; only 2006 and later; ahhhhh

These older Ecm's did come with software on them. How ever, they are no longer produced. So you would have to get a used one or a Remanufacuted ( repaired ) one. Or send yours out for repair

I was hoping for more insight than I already got here but alas

If you want I can supply you the Ecm terminal layout if you want to perform circuit tests? But as far as giving you a answer with out looking at the vehicle to verify, I can only suggest what to check for your issue. Or I can supply you the checks so it can properly be diagnosed
