Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question.

If you put the Passenger old bulb back in, see if that returns back to normal operation. You may have installed the wrong type of bulb and let me know..

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
no still flickers... the passenger side was working fine before i put in the new bulb but putting back the original bulb still flickers..
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
no the part no. matches perfect and when i put the original passenger bulb still flickers..
why?
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

The flickering is normally a bad bulb. You did not touch the glass of the bulb with your fingers did you? Cause the oil from your skin can burn out the bulbs.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
oil can reduce the life of the bulb not burning it
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

I have seen it pop bulbs depending on how it's handled. So for your issue, if it's not a bulb, it could be a bad ballast. if the bulbs are good. I understand how you can't see both ballasts could be bad. But at this point I would replace 1 ballast. If that resolves the one, then you know you need it for the other..

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
i have already replaced on ballast and results remain the same, filickers....what tests can i run to confirm all operation. schematics, fuses, diagram , etc.. please
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
i dont believe all 2 ballasts , 2 igniters would just go bad.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
replaced one ballast and no luck
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
diagram, schematic, anything i can test to confirm proper operations checking for short, open, thats what i looking for from you, i have already done basic swapping and even a new ballast. thanks
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
i would like to trace and verify operation from the head light switch to IPDM, to ballast , to igniters and light bulb please. thanks
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
assuming you are checking on this ?
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

I am grabbing the wiring diagram.. Hang on.. Do you want a copy?

just please tell me how to.... trace and verify operation from the head light switch to IPDM, to ballast , to igniters and light bulb please. thanks
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

The steps are really to see if the ballast is getting good power and ground. Also make sure the bulbs are seated properly and secured properly as well. Poor connection can do that also.. Hang on...

Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

Sorry.. If the car is off, ignition on, you should see around 11.8 volts or so.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
11.8 at the input
Ballast is an inveter so has
AC voltage
What is the AC Voltage at the output of the ballast or input to igniter please
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
This is xenon bulb runs on AC
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I need to verify ballast is good so
Need input voltage which you said around 12 volt DC and output voltage in AC
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Need same info on the igniter please
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

You have DC voltage going to the Ballast. That is the only thing you are checking

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
But how do i know if igniter is good or the ballast ? That's why I am asking you guys as mechanic
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Two ballast two igniters both need to be verified at input and output using
Volt meter just like a mechanic please
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

Did you look at the wiring diagram I shared with you? The check is only to see if the ballast is getting power and ground. If it is, then the issue is with in the head lamp assembly. It doesn't break down anything more than the power and ground to the ballast.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Then how does a mechanic check
Igniter ans bulb I am sure the don't just guess
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

Because of the kind of voltage the Ballast puts out, we don't mess with it cause it could be deadly. So they only allow us to check power and ground at the ballast. If the ballast has power and ground, the ballast would need to be replaced. The Ballast connects to a wire in the head lamp assembly that connects to the bulb. Which is what you are calling the igniter when it is really part of the head light.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Hello again. I verified power is good through the fuse into Ballast around
Battery voltage 12 volts. Same power level at both head lights. Used a new light bulb and still flickers. I then measured the
Igniter output shows 85 to 105 volt AC
but fluctuates just like its flickering.
at this point I am confused as to how I can end up with 3 bad ballast.
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

If you replaced the Ballast, then it's the cord that goes through the head lamp assembly to the bulb.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Measured across two wires one orange and one yellow at ballast output showing
85 to 105 AC and then goes off like it's flickering shows.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Ballast was from eBay but measured the same as other two. 85 to 105 volt AC for a moment and then goes to zero.
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

If they are used Ballasts, you may not know if they are actually good or not. Did you download and review all the info I shared?

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
85 AC volt Power seems to be on for a moment.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did. I followed the power and looks good at the ballast 12 volt. Then it suggest to change ballast. I am trying to figure out why all three ballast show
85 volt AC for a short moment ?
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

Did you read Page LT26 for flickering head light?

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Xenon is 85 volt AC so that's why
Ballast is putting out 85v AC but only for a second
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did read it. It just says check wire hardness I did as I am getting 12 v power to the ballast. Then says change ballast but I need to confirm ballast is the problem by measuring its output AC value
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

It also says that if you change the Ballast and it still flickers to change the Igniter. If it still flickers, change head lamp assembly! ( meaning so it comes with Ballast, igniter and Bulb)

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Put it very simple how do I check to make sure ballast is working. Measured input which is good. Output shows 85 volt AC but fluctuates back to zero.
Is this right ?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Why should I buy new igniter when I can not verify ballast is bad yet ? By measuring its output
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

If you looked at the info I shared, it does not have anything references to measuring AC voltage. There for I don't have any information on that. I personally never have had to do that and I have been a Nissan tech for 26 years.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
not knowing if ballast or igniter is bad.
Buying either one is a gamble and could be a waist of money. What do you think if you were in my shoes.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I don't believe I can buy just the igniter. The head light assembly comes with
Bulb and igniter. Ballast is separate item and is not part of the assembly.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I meant a new one. Can you find me a new one
Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

igniter is discontinued.

Nissan Mechanic: Jay, Nissan Technician replied 3 months ago

To be honest.. It would be cheaper to install a After Market Xenon kit and wire it in than to use the factory setup.

Ask Your Own Nissan Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Going to use a kit since no one can tell me how to test igniter for inout voltage
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I have to say I am very disappointing
Of using the site. Only question is asked was how to measure ballast and igniter
To know which part is bad.
Instead I was asked to simply replacing them without knowing which part is bad.
You helped me pointing out the troubleshooting but unfortunately did
Not have anything about testing
Balast or igniter.
I will close this season for now but most likely will NOT use or recommend to anyone. Thanks for trying. I will go with his kit due to lack of Nissan info.
Thanks again for trying....
