No spark in the plug on the 3rd cylinder? 94 Nissan pickup,

Customer Question

No spark in the plug on the 3rd cylinder?
JA: What is the model/year of your Nissan?
Customer: 94 Nissan pickup
JA: Are you fixing your Pickup yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes, I just put new plugs and wires about 2 months ago, I changed the 3rd cylinder plug today, my engine will start just sputtering though.
JA: Have you checked all the fuses? Do you have a wiring diagram?
Customer: No
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Could that be the reason the cylinder isn't getting spark?

Have you replaced distributor cap and rotor?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
No I replaced plug do you think it could be internal since it is only one plug?
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

I think problem is distributor cap and rotor. If any cylinder gets spark we know the coil is working and the distributor is what distributes the spark to proper cylinder. So replace cap and rotor then problem should be taken care of. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

The spark plug itself isn't getting spark the wire is but not the plug?
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

That would mean the wire is problem. You can swap a wire with another cylinder to see if that solves problem if so this verifies wire needs to be replaced. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.

Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

If still no spark with a known good wire this would mean distributor cap and rotor needs to be replaced.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
The wire has spark, the 3rd cylinder plug doesn't have any spark when I pull the wire off, I can see the spark off the wire
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

If wire is getting spark but not putting out spark that would mean wire is the problem. If wire isn't receiving spark then cap/rotor need to be replaced.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
The spark plus isn't receiveing the spark the wire is putting it out.

Plug*
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

I'm not really understanding what you are trying to say. If spark plug wire is putting out spark then the spark plug is receiving it..

Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

Ignition coil sends spark to coil/rotor, coil/rotor sends spark to spark plug wire, spark plug wire sends spark to spark plug, spark plug sends spark to cylinder.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
When I pull the plug off 1 and 2 cylinder one by one the engine will bog down when I take it off the 3rd one nothing happens
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
that could be the reason one plug isn't getting spark
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

If plug isn't getting spark then it would be caused by wire, distributor cap, or rotor. I'd actually check for spark though, just pulling off wire and seeing it doesn't make a difference could mean anything related to cylinder 3 such as compression or injector.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Okay thanks I'll try that
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

Sounds good, let me know how it turns out. Thanks.
