Customer Question

The odometer and trip tik stopped working on m 1998 Nissan Sentra
JA: Are you fixing your Sentra yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Well, I had it checked by a mechanic today, and he said to bring it back tomorrow, but I am a woman without much car knowledge so want to know in advance if I should take it back or would it be better to get the part first. I saw a pictorial online that shows a small beige gear that needs to be replaced behind the speedometer when some of the teeth break off, but they didn't say where to get the little gear or what it is called.
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?
Customer: As old as the car is - never been replaced
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No. it is standard shift not automatic transmission, and the check engine light was on as well, but after they checked it the light went off

Couple questions:

Does your speedometer work fine?

Can I get milage , Engine size(if known) , and is it automatic trans or manual?
