2005 Nissan Xterra. When you try to put the vehicle in gear

Customer Question

2005 Nissan Xterra. When you try to put the vehicle in gear it feels like the lever is loose and it will not engage? Is this a transmission issue or some kind of linkage issue?
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?
Customer: Transmission was just checked by a transmission guy and we were told it was fine. Have not checked the brake switch.
JA: Are you fixing your Xterra yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Really don't know enough about vehicles to do much mechanic work on them. Really haven't tried anything yet just trying to get some ideas.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question.

How handy are you? I would like to check to see if the shifter cable is moving on the transmission when you are moving it. You would need another person to help you.

Let me know..
