Customer Question

The roof won't close entirely
JA: What is the model/year of your Nissan?
Customer: 2005 altima
JA: Are you fixing your Altima yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I've tried manually pressing down the front wind deflector but that didn't work
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I just tried resetting it by holding the tilt up button for 10+ seconds and now the tilt button operates the first third of the track, and the slide button operates the other two thirds, but it still won't close. Help!

hey how are you

1- inspect the track for any debris , if you have shop air, blow air thru the track

2- inspect the track for any broken pieces

3- sunroof motor sounds good , is it whining or making gear noises like slipping off something ?

Please let me know

Thank You

There's no debris and I don't have access to air but could take it to a gas station to use their air? It's not making any noise. It's gotten stuck there in the past but usually by opening it and trying again it'll close.
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

i think you getting stuck on that last part where it takes the deflector down

get some lithium grease spray kind from advance auto or auto zone and spray the whole track & try opening closing several times

and spray the small hinges that folds down for that deflector

Ok but what can I do about the buttons now? They're all backwards after I tried to reset it.
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

what you mean ,explain more on buttons deal

how did you reset , by disconnecting battery ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I did the manual reset by holding the tilt up button for 10+ seconds. The roof was 95% closed (where it sticks) and now the buttons are backwards. From the position it sticks to one third the way down the track I use the tilt button, but the rest of the track responds to the slide buttons.
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

reset again or disconnect battery

unless you have Nissan specific scanner that can read roof module

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Disconnect the car battery? How do I do that?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

take negative battery terminal off the battery

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
just put it back? What will disconnecting the battery do?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

leave negative cable of the battery for 10 minutes then connect .

reset the setting for buttons hopefully back to default mode like they were

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Do you have a guide on how to do that? I've never done this before but I'm very savvy with a quick tutorial
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

i m sorry ,i don't , i suggest you look at you tube video ,on how to disconnect battery there will be a bunch there

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok is there anything especially important I shouldn't miss that will fry my car or kill me?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 1 year ago.

i suggest you take it to a shop if you are not comfortable doing it .

anything is possible if you did not follow directions

but in theory taking negative cable off should be no problem shocking you , unless you standing in water let say as example
