I am about to by a used car and I would like a car Mechanic to check out the car for me.

1st to do if you haven't is to use this service to check the history of the car

and then try this firm to mechanically check it over

as they operate all over the states

and yes I'd agree the ticking noise could be a sticking valve lifter

Matt The car is a 2002 Nissan Altima GXE 2.5 L engine with about 77,000 mil. do you think I would need a engine over hall (valve,lifters)? and what about the oil leak in the middle of the engine?

at that milage you shouldn't need to replace any parts

unless the car has been neglected and oil changes skipped then the mechanicals should be fine

the oil leak could well be from the inlet manifold / valley gasket , so nothing too important ,more annoying as it will be a persistent leak
