I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra and a few days ago the coolant

Customer Question

Hi. I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra and a few days ago the coolant temperature gauge began skyrocketing. The oil is clean and there is coolant in both the radiator and the reservoir but the engine feels like it's running hot?
JA: Have you checked the coolant? Have you noticed any leaking?
Customer: Yes. I put a cardboard under the vehicle last night and there
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. I'm trying to fix it myself but I can't seem to pin point the problem and the shops around me just seem to want to start putting random parts on?
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The car runs and drives fine but the coolant temperature gauge keeps spiking as soon as the AC goes on or the vehicle warms up. I'm completely lost.

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question.

You mentioned that there is a leak? Do you know around about where it's coming from?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Not too sure. I put a cardboard underneath the vehicle last night but it might have been water though because the liquid doesn't look like coolant neither does it smell like coolant. All the answers I've gotten involves flushing the cooling system or replacing the thermostat and radiator but no one can seem to give me a definite diagnostic.

There is many things it could be. The Thermostat is a possibility.
