I am trying to replace the thermostat on a 2002 Nissan Frontier XE 4 cyl. VIN # ***** Do I need to remove the water pump to take out the top bolt of the water inlet pipe?

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question

The thermostat water inlet is secured by three bolts. You should not have to touch the water pump at all to remove the thermostat housing.
