2000 Nissan Maxima GLE factory Bose audio head unit won't

Customer Question

2000 Nissan Maxima GLE factory Bose audio head unit won't turn on, but the buttons light up. This is the state it was in when I recently bought the car. Where should I start looking to diagnose this problem?

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I do not know if the radio was working in the recent past. I recently bought this car as a fixer upper for cheep at auction
Expert:  Jay replied 1 year ago.

Oh..ok

Lets try this and see if sound returns. Disconnect the negative battey cable for 15 mins. Connect it and the recheck radio operation

Expert:  Jay replied 1 year ago.

Let me know what happens

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will try that in the morning and get back to you, thanks!
Expert:  Jay replied 1 year ago.

You got it. Talk to you in the morning

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
That did not appear to do anything. The audio head unit still won't turn on.

Do you have a test light to check fuses?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I do not have a test light. Would just checking that current runs through the fuse with an ammeter and small battery work? Is there a fuse on the back of the audio head unit itself that i should check? I haven't yet taken the head unit out, I want to know what to look for before i start digging in.
Expert:  Jay replied 1 year ago.

No, There is no fuse on the back of the Radio.

Test lights are not that expensive and very effective on checking fuses to see if they are blown and to see if they are getting power.

Amp meter really is not a effective way to check fuses.

If all fuses are good, and getting power, you are most likely dealing with a internal radio issue.

You have 3 choices. Either find a Used Radio you can install. Send this one out for repair, or remove it and install a after market radio and get more up to date features such as Bluetooth, USB and IPod.

The cheapest is probably to put a after market radio in the car.
