Nissan Xtrail T31 climbing issue vehicle almost goes into

Customer Question

Nissan Xtrail T31 climbing issue vehicle almost goes into limp mode when you stop on a hill and try to move off

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the trans is going into limp in it's because the trans controller is seeing an issue that can cause damage or it doesn't think it has complete control and is setting a fault code. There are many causes for limp in ranging from speed sensors, solenoids, internal trans issues, wiring, and the trans controller itself.

What actual symptoms are you having?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The vehicle would be driving up hills fine but if you come to almost a halt to climb a steep hill, the vehicle suddenly slows down and the revs would climb but the vehicle would just not move. If you park the vehicle and start off cold, it climbs the same hill that it could not climb the previous day but only in when the system is cold. What is the ideal operating temperature for the transmission fluid in the T31 CVT Transmission?
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 1 year ago.

The trans is disengaging or slipping if RPM's climb but the trans doesn't pull.

Have you checked the fluid level?

Have you checked for fault codes?

We got two codes
1. Step Motor
2. Secondary Pressure SolenoidThis is a "re-built" transmission from New Zealand.

Is the trans under warranty? If it's still under warranty then the repair would be covered by the supplier or shop that did the work.
