Customer Question

Hi Jake, I have a 2004 Nissan Murano SL, I just had a rebuilt transmission put in by the dealership about 3 weeks ago and am now having that whirring sound on the passenger side. Once I had the transmission done, they advised that I also need the catalytic converter replaced as well because the car will not accelerate. Please help

good morning my name is ***** ***** I will assist
from your description, it sounds like the right front hub bearing is failing giving you the noise. when they removed the axle shafts to remove the transmission, they took the pre load off the bearing. when it was installed back together, the pre load was set again but now the bearing is making noise.
as far as the cat, yes, it is very possible that it is clogged. a back pressure test needs to be done to check and verify if they are in fact clogged and need to be replaced.

OK, so I have to take it back to them to resolve.
Could the lack of exceleration have anything to do with the exhaust manifold, both converters were changed less than a year ago?
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 2 years ago.
no, the manifolds are pass throughs for the exhaust gases. the gases are processed in the converter and sent out the tail pipe.
1 year ago??? what kind and what was the warranty on the converters???
Roy
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Yes. 1 was bought offline and added by my mechanic at the time, the other was purchased and done by my mechanic. I will have to check on the warranty

let me know

Hi Roy, I am at the dealership and they are saying that whirring noise may be the engine because it still makes the sound with the car in neutral and the gas pushed
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 2 years ago.
ok, thats new information and yes it could be engine related.
hopefully they will remove the belt and find out which pulley is making the noise.
