N16 Pulsar: Nissan pulsar N16 1.8 overheating problems, drive

Customer Question

Nissan pulsar N16 1.8 overheating problems, drive for 10 to 20mins all OK. Then temp gauge goes up and boils the top expansion water tank, mechanic has put in new thermostat and flushed system. Everything looks good but it is still the same. Note Heaters are cold but the car will boil. Regards Brian

You need to have the cooling system checked for exhaust gas. There is a simple chemical test that can be done to check this. Your symptoms may indicate that as you drive the head gasket is leaking exhaust into the cooling system, so the gases displace the coolant and cause the engine to overheat, exhaust gas would also block coolant flow in the heater core, so you don't have heat.
