1998 nissan frontier: oil pump..gasket..the distributor need..timing

Resolved Question:

on a 1998 nissan frontier truck i removed the oil pump assembly to replace the mounting gasket. now the engine will not start.does the distributor need to removed or the oil pump or both to reset the timing. i saw the the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley but was not sure what it lines up with.....saw a pointer thing on the block, is that it?

Normally you would remove the distributor before removing the oil pump. Make sure that you align the punch mark on the spindle with the hole in the oil pump. For the procedure, click here. Also, set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke for the No. 1 cylinder.
