1998 Nissan Maxima: I would have to jiggle the key in the ignition

Customer Question

My 1998 Nissan Maxima will not start. I have been having problems for months were it would not start and I would have to jiggle the key in the ignition to get it to start. This morning that no longer works. I hear a click when I turn the key, but the ingition does not turn over. Battery checks out fine. Tried replacing the ignition switch, but still will not start. Any suggestions???

Ok will it start in neutral?Have you checked the starter?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
No it will not start in neutral. We have not done anything with the starter yet. Can we check the starter without replacing it?
Expert:  Tom replied 7 years ago.
Try tapping the start when someone is cranking over the car if it starts or moves the starter is bad.If there is power and ground to the starter then the starter is bad .If there is not power or ground then the relay could be bad or in the wiring .Most common is the starter .
