I have the same issue as above for the most part. 2008 g35. I have checked fuses, took apart steering wheel and replaced clock spring and bought a new relay. Still doesn’t work. Today used light tester. One pin does nothing, one lights and the last one honks the horn! Also, the panic button on remote does work and I also get a honk when I lock the door but from what I have read they may be a separate horn altogether.

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for you question.

What exactly is the issue with the car?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Read above. Horn doesn’t work at steering wheel
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

It doesn't say. So the horn does not work? Did you check to see if the horn is getting power?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Did you check fuses in the IPDM which is behind the battery and under the passenger wiper cowl?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Apparently it’s not since it’s not working. I’ve checked the fuses, relay and clock spring. There is power to the fuse and relay
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

The IPDM controls the coil side of the relays. Do the relays click when you hit the horn?'

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
No there is no click
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Can you read a wiring diagram?

That is the wiring diagram for you.

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

It is a very basic circuit. I am not sure if you checked the IPDM fuses.. But here is a image of where it's located. You would need to take the trim out around the battery and take the passenger wiper cowl off to access it.

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
How can I check relay to see if it is good
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Since there are 2 identical relays, I swapped them to test. Didn’t work
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Sorry for the delay. There is pinch tab on the back that you press, and the whole box slides up..

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Once you have it up, you remove the cover and it will expose fuses to check.

As how to test the relay, I highly doubt both relays are bad. You have check power at the horns them-self right?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I haven’t checked power to the horn. Would there only be power when horn is pushed?
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

You need to remove the inner fender liner to access the horns.. So if you press the horn button and you have power at the horn and it doesn't sound, then you need horns.

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
The horns do work. I connected to battery. Also work for panic alarm and when locking doors
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Do you have any warning lights on? What have you verified so far?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
That the relays and fuses are good, that the horns do work, that there is power to the relays, that it’s not the clock spring
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Since you had the air bag out, did you make sure your connections are good in the steering wheel?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Everything was in order and snapped into place.
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

So if you ground horn relay number 1 at pin number 1, that should honk the horn. If you ground pin number 3 on horn relay number 2, that also should honk the horn.

Where did you get the clock spring you installed?

Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Did you order it based on your vin number?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I don't remember but it appears identical. All works, except horn which didn't work with the old one either so I doubt it's problem.
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Parts could look identical. So this is what I would do. I would contact a Infiniti dealer and see if you can get the part number for your clock spring, just to make sure you have the correct one. That is the next thing I would check. Cause if you got the wrong one, even though it looks the same, internals are different based on features and steering wheel controls off the car. So if it's the wrong one, that could certainly cause this issue as well

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
11:52 amAccording to the factory catalog and your VIN, that is the correct part. As long as our warehouse sent you the correct item. It should say B5554-1NF0A on the label. There is another component that mounts to the back of the clock spring. The steering angle sensor. Almost looks like a smaller clock spring. make sure they reuse your old one...
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I'm going to check to see if power is getting to horn next
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

If the horn works using the remote.. I would expect it work.

Yeah.. You have to transfer the steering angle sensor when you replace it.

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

I would go to connector E106 and M6 and check to see if you have the steering lock signal to ground when pressed. If you don't, then something with the clock spring or steering wheel has to be the issue.

Key thing when changing the clock spring. You have to make sure steering wheels are straight, and you don't remove the lock until you are ready to install the steering wheel. Failure to do that, you can cause the clock spring to break cause it can only be turned so far before it breaks.

Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Let me get you the connector locations.. Hang on.

So with a ohm meter, if you access that connector and push it the horn, you should get a continuity to ground

Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I don't have a meter, just a light
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Not steering lock. That is for the horn. You want to use the wiring diagram I gave you and go to pin 41 in that connector and do a ohm to ground test with a meter when you press the horn button.

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

You will need a volt meter that can do a ohm checks to properly check the circuit. Do not use a Test light.

Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

I gave you another drop box link which has the harness layout and connector layout. Did you see it?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

That is the Super Multi-Junction connector on the drivers side under the dash area.

What ohm setting should I use?
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

you should see perfect continuity

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Never used one of these. What is the setup
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

You would need to back probe the wire with one lead. Then the other lead would go to ground. Then you press the horn button and see if it goes to 00.0 or Beeps for continuity.

It's one of those two settings. What you do to verify it is to touch the leads together and you should see it read 00.0

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
there is no way for me to know where to stick a probe from the info you've given me. Even if you we here pointing at it, I'm not sure I could get to it. Any other suggestions? I'm pretty confident it's not the clock ring.
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Do I need to remove the front bumper to access the horns?
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Never mind, figured that one out. Tried to take off cover in front of radiator. Too much crap attached to the bottom of it to remove
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 2 months ago

Yeah.. You don't need to remove the bumper cover. Only the inside fender liner and fold it back to access the horns.

Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 1 month ago

I don't think you would need to do that, I think we need to focus on seeing if your getting the Request from the steering wheel first.

How are we making out?

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
I haven't done anything with it. I don't know exactly what I should be doing at this point. I've checked the fuses and replaced the clock ring with a new and correct one. I've checked the relays. I found the hidden fuse box but found getting to the fuses to check them would be very difficult. I checked the schematic for those fuses and none of them seem to have anything to do with the horn anyway. I have verified that the horns do work when connected directly to the battery. I have not been able to verify if they are getting power because they are very hard to get to. I would have to remove the front of the car essentially. Knowing all of that, can you tell me what you would check next if it was your car?
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 1 month ago

Well, did you at least verify that you have the correct Clock Spring. I provided the complete wiring diagram and explained what needed to be checked and done. It will require a Volt meter that can also perform a Ohm check

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
I strongly believe it is the correct clock spring. I did get the diagram but I can't make any association with what they actually are under the dashboard so I won't be able to do anything with that. It is starting to sound like I am out of options.
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 1 month ago

It's a simple circuit. It just requires knowledge on how to read and test the electrical system. I would contact your local dealer and provide your vin number and see if they can provide you with the correct part number so you can double check that to be sure you have the correct clock spring.

Ask Your Own Infiniti Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
the clock spring is still your primary suspect?
Infiniti Mechanic: Jay, Certified Infiniti Technician replied 1 month ago

You replaced that part. So I want to just be sure you installed the correct part number. That is where I wanted to start. Cause if it's the wrong one, it can certainly cause this issue.
