Customer Question

Hello...1997 Infinity QX4...went totally dead...would not start....I had the distributor replaced and ran fine for a couple weeks...then the other day it did the same and replaced the fuel pump...still will not start....cranks and acts like it will but cuts off immediately....any ideas?
JA: Have you ever replaced the fuel pump, or is this the original?
Customer: no I have not replaced...not sure if its the original, but it looks like it could be
JA: Are you fixing your QX4 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have mechanic looking at it but he is having trouble diagnosing
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: not really

Hello my name is ***** ***** thank you for your question.

Do you have any codes? Where did you buy the distributor you installed?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
No codes. ..distributor purchased from napa

I hate after market electrical parts. They never work right. I am thinking it could be that distributor. Did you check for spark?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
we did check for spark...according to napa this was an oem part

Did it come in a Nissan Box?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
it said Nissan on the box
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
the engine will start, it just dies after one second.....

Starts and stalls?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
it just it is not getting fuel....that's why we replaced the fuel pump
Expert:  Jay replied 9 months ago.

Does it stall like someone has turned off the ignition, or does it sputter like it ran out of gas?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
its more like someone turned off the ignition

I would think distributor by that. Can you take a picture of the box and show it to me? Do you still have it?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
no longer have the box but could call napa tomorrow and confirm...any good methods for determining if the distributor is bad?
Expert:  Jay replied 9 months ago.

When it comes to after market electrical parts, it throws allot of the diagnostic logic out the window. They can have you chasing your tail and replace parts you don't need to. I would like a part number or something. Napa doesn't really stock Nissan parts. Most distributors are taken and the housing is reused and they change the guts of them. So you may still see a Nissan stamp on it.

Can you get me a part number?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I don't have access to it at the moment but I can get it in the morning and send it to you, if that's ok......thanks for your help
Expert:  Jay replied 9 months ago.
