Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the headlamps only come on with jumper cables in place then you have a dead battery or a connection issue at the battery. If the terminals are clean and tight then what you'll need to do is either swap in a known good battery or have this battery load tested. If it's testing you'll either find that it's low and needs extensive charging or it has failed. If it's the original battery it is definitely near the end of it's expected life at six years old.
