Jay - Took my '05 FX-35 to the dealer with a bad crank

Customer Question

Hi Jay - Took my '05 FX-35 to the dealer with a bad crank position sensor. They report that they think that in addition to the sensor, the "auto amplifier" may be marginal as they see a longer than normal start delay. What is an auto amplifier, and is this a user serviceable part?

its a fancy term for a ignition coil...IGNITION COIL & POWER TRANSISTOR
The ignition signal from the ECM is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns ON and OFF the ignition coil primary circuit. This ON/OFF operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit.
