Hi there. My situation is around ruptured breast implants. I paid the private surgeon $3500 for new implants in 2016 to replace the old ones that had ruptured. The WDHB agreed to fund the surgery. I did not have mammograms following on after the surgery because I suspected the mammograms had caused the previous one to rupture. Instead I paid privately every year (2017/208/20190 for an ultra sound exam to check that the implants were sound. This year the scan showed the left implant had ruptured. The WDHB is not interested in looking at removing the faulty implants on the public health system, and the specialist surgeon wants me to pay privately to have the implants removed (if it turns out that they are faulty) I have frequent breast pain and a large lump. My first appointment is in November with the surgeon. Should the hospital and or the specialist be taking responsibility for this ?

I have had my GP write to the Waikato DHB to advise them of the rupture in June, they have replied that the surgery is declined. They have also discussed my case with the private surgeon and told him they do not feel they can fund this. The surgery done by them with implants provided by the specialist has failed within 2 and half years of the date of surgery, so I am unsure as to how they have come to this conclusion
