I am writing to ask about privacy in the workplace and
I am writing to ask about privacy in the workplace and workplace hours. My boss has been replying to personal emails and messages via group chats and cc/bcc-ing all other staff to private correspondence in his replies so everyone can see the messages. He has told me that he does this to another staff member when he wants to shame her publicly into fixing any mistakes he is messaging her about. I think this is rather unethical. Most recently he has been publicly berating and attempting to shame and humiliate me and question my work ethics and character via sending out correspondence to all staff members. This was over my taking leave for a personal family emergency. He even sent all of my emails regarding this personal issue to the other staff to see as he tried to make me appear irresponsible for requesting leave and not explaining myself further. He has also been making us stay past our agreed work hours to complete paperwork and speak with him etc , essentially overtime without pay, as we are on hourly basis. During lockdown there have been expectations to 'prepare work' and correspond since as early as an hour or more before our paid time began, and then to finish more paperwork afterwards in unpaid time. If not he would question our responsibility and work ethic and berate us publicly again. I would like to know if these actions are legal as they have compelled me to resign my job after speaking up against him today as I feared he would respond by firing me for speaking out or continue to bully me via messages visible to other staff. I am still worried about his response to my email tomorrow morning. … read more
